12 x 12″ Ink and Watercolor “Batik”on rice paper. 2011.

Watercolor batik is a labor intensive process built around the use of layers of wax or paraffin as a resist. The ink drawing is completed first, followed by the lightest areas of watercolor wash. Light areas are then masked off with hot paraffin and darker wash is applied. The process is repeated until the painting is complete and the whole surface is covered with paraffin. The last phase is melting the paraffin off the paper and revealing the gem underneath!
